Somehow I have access to Penrite Enviro, i am wondering if anyone tried the 5w20 or 0w20 before and whether their durability comparable with Castrol Edge or Mobil 1?

Hey Mate,
I've used a lot of Penrite oil, but always the high-SAPS thicker stuff, never the low/mid-SAPS thinner stuff. But Penrite make a good oil and I'm sure it's a fine product.

The "best" Penrite oil is their 10-Tenths series that is 100% PAO and Ester (Group IV and V). Most of their other full synthetics are Group III, but the Enviro+ series is made with varying amounts of Group III and Group IV (PAO), according this document

Traditionally Penrite oils have been thick with a heavy add pack, so high-SAPS (SA%) with high TBN and high ZDDP (zinc). It's what the Aussie driver wanted back in the day, when driving old school V8's through the outback (Think Mad Max the original).

Now modern cars require thin oil for fuel economy, with low/mid-SAPS to protect the DPF or exhaust catalyst. So Penrite made the Enviro+ series to meet this modern demand.

I'm sure the Enviro+ oils are good, but so too would be equivalent products like Mobil 1, Castrol Edge, Valvoline SynPower and Shell Helix Ultra. I would just buy a name brand synthetic that meets your spec and offers the best price.

For me Shell Helix Ultra and the full synthetic Castrol Magnatec are often the best priced oils that carry the specs I need. If you get Penrite at a good price, then buy it, otherwise M1 or Edge would do me fine. I should add that M1 is known to use decent amounts of PAO in many of their products, and SHU uses the excellent GTL base. All good choices.

It's 25% off all Castrol engine oil.

BTW last weekend they also had 40% off wiper blades, so I changed my old rubber for new. Windscreen wipers seem to cost a lot more now days with their new designs. Glad to get 40% off, and they needed changing.

The higher CCS for the lower KV100 makes me prefer the 10W30 Magnatec over the 10W40, both are SN & A3/B3/B4 oils.

SR5, how do you go about finding these deals in advance?

Visiting AU and need to change oil in a car that was nicely lent to me. Driving is interesting down under for a left hand driver, luckily Ausies are very forgiving & polite.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks mate. Enjoy your time in Oz.

These are their regular catalogue sales, I just google them (e.g. Repco Catalogue) and see what I get.

I checked earlier this week and nothing, but today both SuperCheapAuto (SCA) and Repco have sales on. They don't advertise in advance, so you just need to keep looking.

The reason I've decided to keep adding to one thread, rather that start multiple short threads, was so that you can look back at the dates and begin to estimate when the next sale is approaching. Plus it allows you to compare prices and it keeps BITOG a bit tidier.

Hi SR5, hope you don't mind me posting in your thread.

Spotted some reasonable prices on Ryco Syntec Oil Filters - Z418ST, Z386ST, Z495ST are currently the same price as the regular Ryco filters at Sparesbox eBay. With the code PAUTO15 the price comes down to $12.25 each with free delivery. Some other good prices on Syntec filters, but these ones seem to be the only ones reduced to same price as the regular Ryco's.
