No, I got results from 2 labs by not sending the oil sample to two labs.

Nice … Even at that price … you got two OCI's by many folks standards …

Yes, and I got it on sale so it did fine... I actually got a little more out of it because I didn't actually change it until 12,251 miles... had some other work to do.

Comparing to the last run:

  • The additional make up oil in the last run (from sampling) seems to have had marginal effect on TBN, Perhaps more on TAN
  • The ALS sample shows a more marked variance in TBN between the prior and current sample.

I'll be sending another sample with a few hundred more miles to Blackstone for confirmation of particle counts.

I have a feeling the high cost of the AP oil is due to the unique/proprietary and advanced AO's in this oil. It's pretty impressive the AP oil is good for 20k and has a SA of only .8. Same with EP. Good for GDI engines and long drain capable.

Thanks for sharing. It seems as if you could have easily done that run using M1 EP at lower cost, although I think you may have mentioned getting a great deal on this oil somewhere along the way. I'd be willing to try it myself if priced under $30 a jug, but the everyday $28 price on M1 EP still seems to make more sense. I do have one vehicle in the fleet that is a candidate for this oil, so I will keep an eye on the prices.

what oil filter were you using?

why is there big differences in the particle counts when comparing the two reports?

I didn't think they were "big" differences.

I can't make sense of this. You changed the oil filter for approximately 200 miles and had another particle count done?

Thanks for going all the way with these and posting them for us.
