Just disconnect the hose attached to transmission cooler marked with red paint when filling ATF, no need to pour it in veeeery slowly. Attach the hose back when done.

I may do this, but wouldn't opening the check plug on the side accomplish the same thing (and be easier)? It's just about letting it breathe, right?

My bad on the Pep Boy's sale. The linky still shows $3.90, but it doesn't seem to work: https://www.pepboys.com/pennzoil-mv...1757e11e981f702b00a240612&quantity=1

Blain's Farm & Fleet advertises it at $5.49: https://www.farmandfleet.com/produc...ron-vi-automatic-transmission-fluid.html

The cheapest I can find the Kia OEM product is $13 including shipping: https://www.mykiaparts.com/oem-parts/kia-atf-type-4-m-12-um013ch059 ... https://www.kiachemicals.com/datasheets/504202039tds.pdf

It's interesting to me that only the Hyundai/Kia America's product went to the "M" designation. If you check the Korean and German mfg. they still list their products as SPIV or SP4: http://zicoil.eu/index.php/en/products-3/atf-gear-oil-2/zic-sp-iv-fully-synthetic , http://www.korlube.com/en/product/product_view.php?ca_name=ATF+%26+Gear+Lubricants&wr_id=37 , https://www.ravenol.de/en/products/usage/d/Product/show/p/ravenol-atf-sp-iv-fluid.html ,

This implies to me that when Hyundai/Kia America's had someone produce their first version (SP-IV/SP4), it was not a full synthetic. The "M" version advertises full synthetic the same as the Asian/German products above still labeled SPIV.

Does anyone really care about these details, LOL.

"Does anyone really care about these details, LOL."

Yes, I do! Thanks! Now Propflux01 has made me want to try the genuine SP4-M!

Well, it would be nice if my local KIA dealers actually knew their own products. I call for "KIA Type 4 (M)" prices and one literally kept telling me it's "type 4, no M" which I repeately assured him he's wrong, and the other said "we don't carry it, we only carry O'Reilly Premium ATF, that's literally what it's called."

Have we truly degraded this much as a society...?

tony1679, the parts guy I stopped in to see looked confused when I asked him about SP4-M too. They only had 4 quarts on the shelf, not even enough to do one standard drain and fill!

Yep, I went through the exact same thing about 1.5 years ago. I went into one FCA dealer just to scope things out and the service advisor insisted that I had a CVT in my Patriot. I showed him the window sticker that stated "6 speed automatic transmission" and he literally said "that doesn't matter. You have a CVT". I stopped at both KIA and Hyundai dealers and they, too, had the deer-in-the-headlight look when you mention SP 4M. I had the same thought that you did. It is sad. Of the 6 dealers I called in my vicinity, all used either BG fluids or Valvolene ATF.

I DID have luck acquiring the new Mopar purple OAT coolant locally at a good price, so there is some hope.

I walked right in mine, asked for "SP4 transmission fluid". Guy asked how many. I stated "how many you have?" He said 8.I asked how much? he replied "$7 and some change" I bought all eight.

Which dealer is this? I'll try to order from them. Unless you want to part with some

It almost seems they are selling the SP 4M at the SPIII price. The suggested retail price is $13.35. $7 would be very close to cost.

Tony, order several cases!

I bought mine at Crain Kia in Conway, Arkansas. It has been about a year now since I bought them. I used them all between two cars.
