Has to be completely fenced to carry outside. I'm not fenced.

OP Answer to your post 🤔
NO !!!!!
I trust no one anymore
I don't let my guard down
It's a messed up world we live in today and it's really sad from the world I grew up in only 45 years ago

This is not 100% gospel but in smaller towns or rural areas word spreads pretty fast who is a good guy or one to watch out for . I have a handfull of friends I really trust , they might not keep a secret very well at times but if you needed them you can count on them to do whatever it takes to help you . As I would for them and have .

I was just reviewing a letter from the sheriffs department. My FL property was attracting all manner of bad people.

The issue of trust is also one if location. People with good intentions don't often bypass all manner of barriers and end up where they don't belong.

An old saying: " the thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy". In other words, It's good to recognize that those with the bad intentions of theft are also likely to behave badly in other ways, especially when confronted.

I'd love to live in the middle of nowhere. Oddly, Northern Nevada has an appeal to me - well that and anywhere in the mountains. The fewer the people, the better. And if anyone shows up unannounced then it'll be that much easier to discern their intent.

Does tha Cali open yard no-carry apply to shotguns as well,or only handguns? I'd carry one anyway while out on the property, just very discreetly in the event of an uninvited guest.

Having grown up in rural settings I was always driving down roads with "No Trespassing" signs to get to a friend's house or a party etc and if I took a wrong turn and someone asked me where I was going I might not want to reveal my destination. Not making excuses for the guy, but let's not jump to only one conclusion. Always good to be prepared, keep gates shut(we used a crappy combination lock that could easily be broken but someone trespassing couldn't tell us the gate wasn't closed). Don't know where you'd get one, but a "Flagman Ahead", or "Utility Work" sign may have curiosity seekers making a u-turn sooner rather than later. My 2 cents.

I do typically trust people unless they give me reason not to.
This guy gave you plenty of reason.
He was either looking for a dealer he'd heard of or looking to case places he could burgle.
Either way, you escorted him on his way and he'll not likely bother you again.
It kinda sucks that when you move out to the beyond you still have city losers coming to bother you.

Got to be home all the time though. I want to live in a more rural area, but around here I feel the risk of break in/theft is higher in the rural areas vs current suburban area where my retired neighbors will notice and mention anything out of the ordinary. Not really comfortable having two trucks and all my belongings unattended in the middle of nowhere while I'm at work..need a lot of security for that.

Kind of an interesting problem.
There has to be a solution to keep most (honest) people off your road (driveway).

How does your road differ in material/construction than the main road ?

How far from the house is the second gate ?
I'd have a sign posted here saying, "one step further and you risk getting shot".

roads are all dirt. How about this sign I have?

Sign should be bigger... ?

If you ever drive a car on a two lane road, you trust every driver traveling in the opposite direction with your life.

You do leave your home, don't you?!?

In NEw England especially NH/ME.generally yes for people I know are native and don't look like on drugs. Our crime rate is quite low.

Well said CT8....

For me it is a hierarchy...

1st level... Like is easiest by far...

2nd level... Respect is a good amount harder....

3rd level... Trust is by far the hardest....

Very very few people I trust....

Helpful hints for the day.... At work... After you first start at a new job/position... Do not trust anyone..... For a long, long, long time. Even if you start to trust someone.... And there's something you are thinking and may say... Only tell one person who you think you can trust... If it gets out... Then you know who started it and not to trust them ever again. If you tell more than one person something important... You will never find out who broke their trust and their word to keep it confidential between you and them. Whereas if you just tell that one person... It's obvious.
Also... Keep 99% of your negative commentary to yourself... Don't share your negative thoughts about co-workers with others hardly ever. It's way better that way. And just pay attention and listen... People will generally show who they are over time...

I live at the end of a @2,000' private drive. I've told Central Dispatch that if I report a strange vehicle on my property after dark they should send the coroner along with a police unit if their response time is going to be much over 45 seconds.

Big difference in trusting someone and someone intentionally driving head on into another. Suicide by car i guess is what your point is. Not what this thread is talking about
