VOA Motul 300V Factory Line Off Road 15w-60

Recently, a VOA of the Motul 300v Factory line off road 15w-60 oil was done by members of the german Oil forum "oil club.de" .

According to one member, "Andy", the administrator of the forum who is the person with the deepest chemical knowledge from all members in the forum, the oil is Hydrocrack / Group III.

This is disappointing, because Motul is advertising this oil clearly as "Vollsynthetisch" here in Germany, that means it must contain at least 50% Group IV / PAO oil, according to german law.

Nevertheless, it looks like a decent oil.

My only concern is how an oil performs. So far Motul 300V 4T performs best in our high performance sportbikes. And Motul 800 2T Off Road does great in our 2-stroke dirtbikes.

Why is there Sulphur (Schwefel) as an additive in that oil? What is its purpose?

Sulphur will be coming from the detergent (calcium sulphonate) and zinc (ZDDP - zinc dialkyl dithio phosphate - the thio in dithio means sulphur containing).

Looks to have some ester based upon FTIR peak around 1740cm-1. It could be methacrylate viscosity modifier (low shear) as it will also have a peak in the same area for C=O stretch. MSDS clearly references a lot of Group III (more than 50%).

High-Performance 1 cylinder bikes use this oil. KTM, Husquvarna and so on..
