I have been trying to find out where CV Axles are manufactured. I was looking for information on the NAPA ALTROM Line of CV Axles and stumbled upon this site. Looks like ALTROM is re-boxed Trakmotive from China. This information was very hard to find. It cost only $15-$20 per AXLE to make! Talk about profit! Looks like the Junk Yard is going to be my only option for my 93 Accord.

Not sure a 26 year old CV is the way I'd go. If you could find one in good shape, I don't think the boots are going to be in great shape for long unless you plan on tearing it apart, re-greasing it and then doing new boots. Plus you're taking a wild guess as if it was any good in the first place.

I guess I'm not understanding what the deal is. Purely cost? There's plenty of shafts out there for decent money. Longevity? I can't imagine that car being hard on shafts, its only putting out something slightly more than 100hp.

From the research I've done, I settled on GSP when I needed the drivers side shaft for my TL. It's been flawless over about 20k miles.

The internet has really opened up what the markup on automotive parts are for the end user willing to look. I usually buy from Rockauto, I could get a rotor for $17 plus shipping, one rotor at AutoZone was $45. I realize AutoZone has more overhead costs, but what are the distributors selling through Rockauto buying it for? I'd imagine$10 or less. So AutoZone is buying it for $10 and selling it for $45.

Yeah, they have to pay people a few cents over minimum wage to watch the place. I consider brick-and-mortar auto parts to be a convenience store these days.

The retail price ending up double the FOB factory price is a typical rule of thumb for consumer goods. Many things such as luxury items are higher than that.

Yes I planned to re-boot with OEM Boots. The Boot Kits were $30 each! so I am in this $60 without a core. My main concern about the Aftermarket is vibration. Vibration really kills your driving experience. Thanks for the tip about the GSP Axle, that is what Rock Auto recommended. I also own a 2006 TSX and prefer the raw feeling of driving the 93 Accord. My 91 Accord with 100K on it even drives better than the 93, I suspect the Michelin MXV4 tires are responsible for that.

Very good point! I worked at a Company that had all their products made overseas and if a batch of items (electronic test equipment) failed incoming inspections the product was not send back. the shipping cost exceeded the price of the product.

hey.. forget the aftermarket junk, try raxles.com it's a small shop in Florida. After looking all over and being un-impressed (to say the least) with the aftermarket I found out about raxles on some honda forums. I ordered a pair for my 96 Civic and they're excellent! No vibrations, no problems at all and I've had them for 6 years now. From what I remember they only use the Honda shafts, everything else is new and excellent quality. Before wasting your time looking at more aftermarket junk, check out raxles.com or give them a call (on the site)..

The Bentley manual for the E-28 has a page about CV joint service. If the balls are smooth and shiny, then the parts are OK to re-use. If you hold the axle in your hands and articulate the CV joint, you can tell. Other than being a very messy job, it isn't hard. All you need is snap ring pliers

Raxles is worth considering

All the new aftermarket axles you';ll find anywhere are all Chinese and likely from the same few factories.

I spoke to Marty, I just need to locate an OEM Core to send him. They do not have one.

I did that with my 91 AXLES! Re-Booted with OE Honda Boots and grease. My 93 Daily driver had aftermarket Suretrak installed when I bought it. I took a chance and bought a "OE" Axle Off Ebay that ended up being a rebuilt by who knows that I sent back. Finding a Axle that still has the OE Boots is possible by I need to be patient.

awww man... well hey I tried!

yeah the work Marty does is insanely good. Almost so good I wanted to display the parts on my fireplace mantle! hopefully you can find an oem core if you decide to go with his work..

I looked up Honda's reman driveshaft/axle for the 93 accord and it looks like they're still available. Check your local dealer to make sure.. Looked like about $200+ each online (bernardi honda, college hills, etc).. just a thought..

FWIW, I installed new Duralast axles on my Accord 3 yrs ago and they're still fine.

Raxles do a great job on them, most people just won't spend the money for it. I'd certainly give them a go if I had a super picky car, but thankfully I've been lucky that the one CV I've had to replace has been fine.

here's the pdf I found that gives the part numbers to the remanufactured Honda (genuine) parts. I just pasted it into a search engine and found places that had a price, trying other part numbers it did say discontinued (for other other models, not accord). Just thought it would help.. here's the link to the pdf..

Get a junkyard used axle and send that to Marty

Enough cars go to the junkyard on their original axles so that you should be able to find a rebuildable OE core

I ordered the Honda reman part number, I will know if I can still get it soon. Thanks because I could not find the numbers anymore.
