Have a new to me 2005 Mazda Tribute 2.3 L manual trans 4 x 4. Similar to Ford Escape.
Want to change transfer case fluid (same thing as Ford Escape Power Transfer Unit), manual trans fluid, differential fluid.
Don't know anything about 4x4 transfer cases.

Owners manual says:

For transfer case or power transfer unit in this MANUAL transmission vehicle, API SERVICE GL-5 SAE 80W 90
For manual transaxle API SERVICE GL-4 75w 90
For rear axle lubricant API SERVICE GL-5 SAE 80W-90 PREMIUM REAR AXLE LUBRICANT.

Why different lubes for these three geared mechanisms?
Any suggestions for something better now 14 years after the 2005 Mazda (Ford) was made.

Just use a quality 75W90 in all three. You do know there's no drain plug on the PTU from the factory, right? The only way to change the fluid it to suck it out the fill hole or remove the PTU, drill a hole in it, and tap it for a drain plug.

Ford may have specified a 75W140 for the auto trans PTU due to it's closer proximity to the exhaust and the higher output of the V6.
