Here is the MANN HU 719/6X cartridge filter from my sister's 2013 2.5L Jetta. The filter was in use for 11,000 miles, a little longer than I would have liked (she goes over on oil changes constantly) but it held up okay.

A little wavy, but for the mileage and length of the filter, not bad looking.
No internal support? Or is that built into the housing?

If it is anything like Mercedes, the oil filter housing has a "nozzle" that inserts inside the filter to provide support.

Most likely the support is in the oil filter cap like this:

Not bad for 11 rounds.
Looks ok to me at 11k miles. Wave doesn't affect function, and in a cartridge this long some wave to be expected imo.

Different it is on the cap like that.
There is just such a variety of systems, some have it built into the filter, some in the housing, some on the cap, some a combination, some have parts that click into other parts.

I do like that the housing has a drain valve on the bottom. It allows you to drain out the entire filter before removing it, and makes for practically zero mess.
