Does BMW 0W-20 = PUP 0W-20?

The Pennzoil product doesn't make any mention BMW LL-14FE on any of their literature. To state that these are the same oil, I would say no.

They could vary the anti-oxidant chemical treat rates between the two. BMW qualification tests might demand better longevity. They probably are "cousin" oils though, since they do say the BMW oil uses PurePlus GroupIII+ base oils like the Platinum and Ultra does.

The additive packages look nearly identical. Are these the same oils?

No! Just bcs additive numbers are similar, it does not mean bas stock combination is.

What's the base stock composition of the BMW product

GTL. Probably other base stocks to achieve LL14FE performance.

It still baffles me that BMW wants people to use this oil in most of their new turbo engines, even the higher performance ones like in the M240i. I really don't believe that 0w20 has a high enough HTHS unless you are driving like granny everywhere (but how many turbo BMW owners do that?). Just imagine when the oil temperature gets good and hot, fuel dilution is at 1% and you're going WOT everywhere.

If I had a new BMW I would take it in for the free oil changes just to keep up the warranty, but then I'd immediately go home and swap the oil out for a 5w30 or 0w30 with a solid 3.5 HTHS value. (probably M1 ESP but I'd also highly consider one of the Pennzoil Euro offerings)

Before you know it, Germany will pass a nationwide 130 km/hr maximum speed limit and all this worry about HTHS will go by the wayside.

We have a 100 km/h speed limit on our highways here and I still worry about HTHS

This is push at North American market.
In Europe they require LL04.
