I bought my '71 in San Jose, CA from a postal delivery woman. Darrell Sue Bxxxxxxx. I'll always remember her name. She was a cute little thing. She had a Corvette previously, which was stolen IIRC. She bought the TR as a replacement but ended up not liking it. I bought is just out of warranty. It had just over 12K miles on it. To you young folks, warranties on many cars back then were just 12 months/12,000 miles. I proposed to my wife in that car. It served me very well.

I sold it to my best friend when it had 156K miles on it, back in 1985 (I sold both the TR and my BJ7 Healey for a V12 E-Type - big mistake). My TR was one of the most reliable cars I ever owned. I never had any problems with it. My best friend still has it although it no longer runs because it's sat in the garage under a cover for 20+ years. It looks just like the day I sold it to him. It has flawless original paint and a 95% interior. He's offered to sell it back to me for what I sold it to him for - $6500 - but I have four cars already, and only a 3 car garage. I feel bad enough leaving our Honda Element outside.

The TR6 was a great machine. There have been several for sale recently on Bring A Trailer. Prices seem very reasonable to me.

Scott

Yes, Magenta. Not my first choice, but it was a ~34K mile one owner, completely un "improved" car when I found it, that was also built within weeks if not days of my first car.

Don't let your TR go... Easier to find space than that car, esp at that price.

The TR market is funny, lots of good drivers at reasonable prices, but silly money for the top cars.

Hey, I only purchase cars that interest me. Luxurious, fast, high mileage... Always unique in some way.

I'm currently mulling some very bad decisions... Two British, one Italian. Which will I pick?

Guy I worked for had a Continental GT, the V 12 thing...went like dog turds off a shiney new shovel....amazingly impressive.

25L/100km, even when he's not on it.

And was with him when he got it serviced...they pointed out that he had non load rated tyres, and that was technically illegal...and $3,600 for a regular service, WITHOUT plugs...they checked and gapped them.

$600 for 12 litres of oil...the service writer just about had a conniption when I mentioned the VW spec and that M10W40 was ONLY $100/5 litres at Repco, surely they wouldn't mind him putting three jugs in the passenger footwell and putting it in next service...THey threw in a his and hers Coffee mug for free after that (not for me).

If it's the truth....it can handle the pressure !!!

I was hoping you'd say Aston! Good luck with the search. I've had my eye on the late 90's, early-mid 2000's I6 and V8's, some nice cars out there for reasonable prices. I love the V12's, but I've been advised to pass on them...

I'm even more boring...
1976 Chevy Nova I6 4.1l (graduation present from dad, my only used car)
1989 Honda CRX (not an HF or Si, just a plain CRX...financed for one year to build up a credit history and then paid off)
1996 Subaru Outback (paid cash)
2006 Toyota RAV6 (paid cash)
2014 Subaru Forester XT (paid cash)

As you can see, I buy reasonably priced new cars outright and then run them until I'm sick of them/they start to get wonky.
The Nova was a nice free stopgap for me while I saved up money after college, but it was also a hunk of junk.
The CRX was tiny and gutless, but I never had to slow down for a corner in that thing. Rock solid reliability, it did strand me once when it wouldn't start but I had blown off a Honda recall for that very issue! Took three days to get a tow to the dealer.
The Outback was gutless and clunky, but great for getting my family around in New England winters. Also quite reliable.
The RAV6 was my first car with any power, fun to drive but needed a huge AWD system rebuild that I had to pay for.
The Forester is pretty similar to the RAV6 in a lot of ways, needed a big CVT repair but it was under warranty. Worried a bit about the future...
Other than the Nova, I put something like 120-160kmiles on each car with 100k on the FXT now. My miles driven per year jumped quite a bit after I got the RAV6, I am a solid 20kmile a year driver now.

My first car purchase was an odyssey...I was dead set on buying a Grand National at first, but Buick stopped making them. I thought about a Mustang 5.0, but a friend bought one right then and had nonstop trouble with it before trading it in on a Golf. Nearly bought a Chevy Cavalier Z24 that was sorta fun to drive, but it felt cheap to me and a guy I worked with and couldn't stand bought one at the same time and that turned me off. Drove the CRX on a whim and liked it, it was cheap and I didn't have much need for 4 seats...strange to start out thinking GN and ending up CRX. The stupid thing is my insurance would have been cheaper with the death trap GN than the two seater CRX!!!
I think I dodged a bullet with that Z24, talked to the guy who owned one a few months later and he told me it was already falling apart and the worst purchase he ever made. I noticed that very few of those were on the road just a few years after the model died out....

I definitely have a big phobia about buying used...anything that is too new makes me think it has problems and anything older I think will be worn out. I definitely don't want to buy somebody else's problems...so many modders on subaruforester.org and other sites would post about messing up a vehicle with mods and then selling it or trading it in after returning it to stock (particularly the newer Subie CVT models).
