Guy I worked for had a Continental GT, the V 12 thing...went like dog turds off a shiney new shovel....amazingly impressive.

25L/100km, even when he's not on it.

And was with him when he got it serviced...they pointed out that he had non load rated tyres, and that was technically illegal...and $3,600 for a regular service, WITHOUT plugs...they checked and gapped them.

$600 for 12 litres of oil...the service writer just about had a conniption when I mentioned the VW spec and that M10W40 was ONLY $100/5 litres at Repco, surely they wouldn't mind him putting three jugs in the passenger footwell and putting it in next service...THey threw in a his and hers Coffee mug for free after that (not for me).

Hey, I only purchase cars that interest me. Luxurious, fast, high mileage... Always unique in some way.

I'm currently mulling some very bad decisions... Two British, one Italian. Which will I pick?

Do tell. I'm pretty good w/ bad automotive decisions, let me help

Bentley, Aston, Maserati. Looking for a big thirsty 2 door.

I was hoping you'd say Aston! Good luck with the search. I've had my eye on the late 90's, early-mid 2000's I6 and V8's, some nice cars out there for reasonable prices. I love the V12's, but I've been advised to pass on them...

That wasn't part of the rules was it? And you can't say eh in a sentence unless you're Canadian.

Not very impressive:

1986 Subaru GL 1.8(?)/4MT (bought used)

2000 Saturn SL 1.9/5MT (bought new)
2004 VW Jetta 1.9/5MT (bought new)
2010 Toyota Tundra 4.6/6AT (bought used)
1999 Toyota Camry 2.2/4AT (bought used)

Put on about 10k, 20k, 6k, 116k, 314k, 75k, 65k respectively (miles).

What a pile...Horrible, miserable little car. Hey but it was High School so it got me from A to B.

1999 VW Jetta
2003 BMW 330i (ZHP)
2006 BMW 330i

2015 BMW 435i

Needless to say, except for one blip, I've been a fan of the I6 configuration for a long time.

I'm even more boring...
1976 Chevy Nova I6 4.1l (graduation present from dad, my only used car)
1989 Honda CRX (not an HF or Si, just a plain CRX...financed for one year to build up a credit history and then paid off)
1996 Subaru Outback (paid cash)
2006 Toyota RAV6 (paid cash)
2014 Subaru Forester XT (paid cash)

As you can see, I buy reasonably priced new cars outright and then run them until I'm sick of them/they start to get wonky.
The Nova was a nice free stopgap for me while I saved up money after college, but it was also a hunk of junk.
The CRX was tiny and gutless, but I never had to slow down for a corner in that thing. Rock solid reliability, it did strand me once when it wouldn't start but I had blown off a Honda recall for that very issue! Took three days to get a tow to the dealer.
The Outback was gutless and clunky, but great for getting my family around in New England winters. Also quite reliable.
The RAV6 was my first car with any power, fun to drive but needed a huge AWD system rebuild that I had to pay for.
The Forester is pretty similar to the RAV6 in a lot of ways, needed a big CVT repair but it was under warranty. Worried a bit about the future...
Other than the Nova, I put something like 120-160kmiles on each car with 100k on the FXT now. My miles driven per year jumped quite a bit after I got the RAV6, I am a solid 20kmile a year driver now.

My first car purchase was an odyssey...I was dead set on buying a Grand National at first, but Buick stopped making them. I thought about a Mustang 5.0, but a friend bought one right then and had nonstop trouble with it before trading it in on a Golf. Nearly bought a Chevy Cavalier Z24 that was sorta fun to drive, but it felt cheap to me and a guy I worked with and couldn't stand bought one at the same time and that turned me off. Drove the CRX on a whim and liked it, it was cheap and I didn't have much need for 4 seats...strange to start out thinking GN and ending up CRX. The stupid thing is my insurance would have been cheaper with the death trap GN than the two seater CRX!!!
I think I dodged a bullet with that Z24, talked to the guy who owned one a few months later and he told me it was already falling apart and the worst purchase he ever made. I noticed that very few of those were on the road just a few years after the model died out....

I definitely have a big phobia about buying used...anything that is too new makes me think it has problems and anything older I think will be worn out. I definitely don't want to buy somebody else's problems...so many modders on subaruforester.org and other sites would post about messing up a vehicle with mods and then selling it or trading it in after returning it to stock (particularly the newer Subie CVT models).

It takes a lot of courage to admit that you once owned a Plymouth Scamp.

Just joking with you.

1997 Saturn SL2 5-speed (first one I could call my own)
1977 MG Midget (rescued from a friend's garage)
2004 Honda CR-V EX AWD (one of the few stick shift CR-Vs)
2008 Honda CR-V LX FWD (got tired of a stick shift in daily bumper-to-bumper traffic)
2010 Chevrolet Traverse LS AWD (first used car if you don't count the Midget. Needed something a little better suited for towing a camper)
2015 Honda Pilot EX 4WD (Used. Replaced the troublesome Traverse)

OK I'll play:
1972 AMC Gremlin X (4.2L) - grandparents were first owners, one of the most reliable vehicles I ever had
1965 Mustang coupe (3.3L) - straight six with 3-speed stick, a few water leaks but otherwise a great car
1967 Mustang coupe (3.3L) - straight six with 3-speed stick, several ongoing problems due to previous owner neglect (well-hidden prior to purchase)
1992 Ford Thunderbird LX (3.8L) - mint condition, never had a problem
1986 Mazda B2000 pickup - completely ragged out but kept running... and chugging down quarts of 20w50
2006 Toyota Tacoma 2.7 - best vehicle I ever owned, 152k and still purring along
1995 Corvette LT1 6-speed (RIP Green Machine) - totaled on the highway, other driver's fault. Nobody hurt, thank you God.
1995 Corvette LT1 6-speed (Clean Machine) - a very fun toy

1974 Cutlass Supreme
1977 Datsun 280Z
1987 Oldsmobile Toronado Trofeo FE-3
1986 Nissan 300ZX turbo
1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT SL
1998 Mitsubishi 3000GT SL
1996 Nissan 300ZX
2012 Honda Accord Coupe EX-L

2001 Ford Ranger XL, 2.5L I4, 5-speed manual, 2WD - 1st vehicle purchased May 2004 - sold (boring)
1995 Ford Explorer Sport 2-door, 4.0L V6, 4-speed auto, 4WD - sold (rusted out)
2002 Ford Ranger XLT Super Cab, 3.0L V6, 5-speed auto, 2WD - still own
1994 Ford Ranger STX reg cab, 4.0L V6, 5-speed manual, 4WD - still own
1994 Ford Explorer XLT 4-door, 4.0L V6, 4-speed auto, 4WD - still own

I don't deviate much. 3 of the four were built at Ford's Louisville, KY plant within months/weeks of each other.

I got Sienna bcs there is nothing more practical than minivan for family purposes. No one wants them anymore, so used prices are much better than comparable Highlander with same engine, tranny, platform, AWD, but Highlander is much smaller. With Sienna purchase I can save more money to get myself BMW 335i or Audi S4. I kind of narrow down to those two vehicles, with stick shift, of course.

edyvw, this would be enough for me to be wary of the 335i. Ridiculous.

NO! I am going strictly for 2011 with N55 engine. I want E90 due to, well you know, excellent steering feedback. But engine has to be N55, which in E90 is only 2011. If I stumble on well preserved 328i xDrive with sport package or M package, then maybe. But it is very hard to fins xDrive and sport package/M package in 328i.
