Oil of curiosity, following the vendor rep from valvoline, he told me the Maxlife 5w20 is rated to 10,000 miles, so I pushed it to 8800 miles and sent in for oil analysis via Wix.

Here's what they said.

Have the same year Trailblazer and engine I take care of. Why are you running 5W-20 and not 5W-30? Right now im running 10w-30 Pennzoil from all my stash.

Welcome to BITOG Buzz
Nice report for this winter run. But with summer coming, will you be running 5W30?

The formulations for these oils have been changing. So stay on top of them.

I did spec it out, but I followed what previous owner had written on the fan shroud.
I think on my oil change I'll bump it up to 5w30, so far since Feb when I did my last oil change I'm almost at 3000 miles, so it won't be in there long.

Looks good, but I would run 5W30 as that is what the manual suggests. The 4.2Ls are great engines. My dad still daily drives his 03 Trailblazer.

I just recently gave our '02 away. It had 233K on it. I always used M1 5w30 and changed it at 7500 along with the Purolator. Besides the water pump, that 4.2 is a great engine.
