Back to the future. Seattle had the electric Interurban railway running to Tacoma one hundred years ago.

Car makers aren't placing any bets actually. All of their efforts are paid buy you, me and every other taxpayer. They have quite little to lose in fact, but a lot to gain. Many jump on the bandwagon because they don't want to risk being left out just in case electric vehicles actually catch on, or the government makes them catch on.

Her 100 mile range is about equal to my Ford Focus EV's range (at slow speeds).

And why not? Nissan Leaf is looking good lately (finally), my Focus EV is nice. BMW I3, Model 3, Model S, Bolt, Soul EV, I-Pace, Niro, Kona, all fine for commuting etc.
