The Russians learned this lesson in a big way a few decades ago. Engineers got creative and designed a new submarine reactor cooled by "liquid metal," in this case, a mix of lead and bismuth, and installed it in their new "Alfa class" subs. Seven built, the first retired after less than one year -- guess why. . .
At least a mess of bacon grease isn't radioactive when you try to clean it up!
