I had a smaller size 12 V lead/acid battery for an Alarm System.
Taken out of service because voltage was showing 10.5 v
It has never been discharged, just hooked up to Sump Pump Alarm.
I paid $18. for it 6.5 years ago.

I was expecting the acid to pour out, but in fact the inside was bone dry.
Is this an AGM battery or do they just dry-up like this ?
The lead-plates were very thin and have a flexible material between them.
It did have 6 fill-caps that were covered (maintenance free)

Well anyway, this is what they look like inside.

Heh, I just had a UPS battery just fail too. Warning light came on, unit was unusually hot, pulled both of the batteries and one of them dropped a cell. Not bad for 3 years of service.

I'm not gonna cut open mines to check if it's AGM or flooded (core charge) but it's possible its AGM. Didn't hear any sloshing and and batteries install sideways which you want to do with a flooded battery.
