Yeah, I was briefly.
8.30 AM flight from Sydney Tuesday. Three days with the international leadership/engineering then a flight at 10PM Friday night hitting Sydney at 10AM Saturday, then 4 hours in a car...wrecked me, slept for 13 hours last night.

Connectivity on my personal phone was sketchy, so here's some more.

First I was stoked to have flown over our two power stations.First has been decommissioned but holds special value as the little UFO thing to the left of the cooling tower is part of the coal handling infrastructure that I built in 1997/98, the little UFO is 330 feet diameter, and stored 35,000 tonnes of coal. Spent a decade as turbine enginere there (well at both)...that first cooling tower, my team removed 4,800 tonnes of asbestos fill and replaced with modern plastic fill in 9 weeks (plus full turbine train overhaul and remved and replaced 262km of condenser tubes - 162 miles of 1: tubing)

So the night before the forums and the Thursday night I had my evenings to myself.

Not straying far from the motel on evening one...found some of the Chinese people movers looked like something out of the '70s Giant Robot themes.

Speaking of vehicles...this is their most common taxi...and I really think they are a brilliant idea, and BITOGers would fall over themselves to get one nearly as much as an ex Cop Caprice.

It's the Toyota Comfort (technically the "Crown" comfort...Toyota sold Crown's in the '70s here before the Cressida).

Designed with a bigger box cabin, and nearly as much rear leg room as my 1997 Caprice had...big trunk for plenty of luggage in spite of the LPG tank (optional, but virtually standard from what I saw)...2.0VVT, with petrol/LPG options. 5 speed or column shift auto (only saw auto), RWD with a live axle.

Thus why I think BITOGer's would love them.

Thursday travelling around to various venues (saw some amazing stuff...on power generation for HK)....

My boss told me before that he'd observed that if a building design was successful, then you just keep building it...he was right. A guy I met who was just moving to HK for employment was renting a 12 square metre apartment...130 square feet.

We saw people using the ledges as corridors, climbing out windows and into the adjacent apartments...not looking nefarious, it just looked as BAU for them...maybe it saves the door swing room in the second apartment and that 4 square feet.

But there were always quality open spaces around the place (didn't have time to explore that).
