I'm having a weird cluck and not sure how to proceed to fix this.

This is in a 2007 Saturn Ion 2 that we bought last November. My daughter, who's away at school an hour away, noticed it a few weeks ago. That was about a week after she had hydroplaned and hit a curb square with both front tires.

Anyone have any suggestions, or should I just have her take it to a transmission shop?

Thanks

Can you confirm it didn't make this noise previously?

I've had cars with slop like this, and I assume it's normal.

How did she notice this, by playing with the wheels off or is it making noise driving down the road?

It didn't make any noise until a few weeks ago, she noticed it after the hydroplane. It the clunking noise when it's not under load, so coasting or decelerating. That's in forward or reverse, at any speed.

I want to say that noise is normal but you shouldn't hear it when driving down the road. A transmission shop is going to be huge dollars so I would be tempted to just leave it.
