Hi guys,

A car of mine was broken into a while back and I wanted to change the door lock barrels (they were damaged).

I took apart the passenger one and wrote down the tumbler/slider numbers to code the new barrel to my old keys.

I then took apart the driver side door barrel and the coding was slightly off on 2 of the 8 sliders.
e.g., a particular slider might have been 2C on the passenger but 2B on the driver side.

The key does open both sides, but I wonder why this would be?
Oversight in the factory?
Or is this deliberate?

I know on some cars there are keys that will unlock, but not start the car, other keys that only work on the glovebox lock etc but this car never had any of these features.
