in Hutchinson Ks. one Quick Shop ( NOT Quick Trip ) station mixed gas and Diesel. started last Tuesday. they closed the shop down on Thursday. now they are paying a bunch of money to fix cars / trucks.

Did they put gasoline in the diesel tank or diesel in the gasoline tank? Or both? I had that happen to my GTO back in the 60's. It smoked, knocked and ran like carp but did no permanent damage. Now gas in a diesel would be a different story.

Unless the tanks were not clearly market and someone there was directing the driver ...

Correct name for the stores is Kwik Shop. Three stores are involved, but the most prominent one was at K-61 and Fourth St. KWCH has a pretty good story on line if anyone is interested in details.

Wow... I wonder what happens to the fuel that's in the bulk tanks? We're talking 10-20k gallons of mixed fuel, what do they do with it? Can't un-mix it, wonder if it goes back to a refiner?

Or his truck was loaded wrong at the terminal.

It doesn't have to go to a refiner. There are companies that handle pipeline transmix (where something like gasoline mixes with jet fuel), and they're not necessarily full-scale refining operations. I found a couple that look like just a few distillation towers. There's always a tiny bit of assorted stuff that gets into different fuels because pipelines are shared, but it's usually at acceptable levels.
