My Dad said That I can have his older Samsung Galaxy J7 sky pro, which says Tracphone when it is first fired up. I've just been using it on Wifi. I kind of like the bigger screen and rather impressive battery life.

My regular Smartphone is 5 year old Samsung Galaxy S4 mini, which does everything I need from a smartPhone. I don't need latest or greatest by any means.

My Network is Ting, which uses Sprint towers.

Say my S4 mini fails, could I just swap the Sim card to the newer Galaxy and be able to connect to Ting network?

If it is possible, yet more involved than that,.. well enlighten me, if you care to, or perhaps point me somewhere where I can gain a better understanding of this topic.

Much appreciated

Tracfone uses att, t-mobile and verizon networks.

No Sprint.

I can be wrong but chances are using the Tracfone phone in Sprint's Ting network is probably less than 1% assuming you can get it unlocked.
If Ting have GSM service, then you have a bigger chance assuming the phone is unlocked.

to see if the phone is eligible run the imei number in the link below, To find your IMEI, dial *#06#
https://www.sprint.com/en/shop/bring-your-phone-to-sprint.html?INTNAV=LP:BYOD:Shop:030918

If it is eligible then the next step is to see if the phone is unlocked. But first check the imei on the sprint website link above
