Is 30k mi. Coolant drain and fills overkill?

That's because they assume either you are flushing with tap water or not flushing at all and just draining and refilling which could leave 50% of the old coolant still in the engine. If you flush repeatedly with distilled water (4-5 times) so what drains out is pure water, I'd have no problem following the original recommended replacement interval. Spending an extra $10 for 10 gallons of distilled water is nothing over 100,000 miles.

What would happen if you added a coolant filter that is charged with the white chemical additives inside??

I see no harm in changing it early. I change mine in the Accord every 3 years. I am of the mindset that it is cheap insurance.

The vehicle made by GM so it will use GM coolant. See pages 294-297 of your 07 Vibe owners manual.

I remember traditional silicated Prestone was meant for every 15k up to one year. I went to a Japanese car specialist that insisted in using OEM spec fluids, but even for Honda/Nissan/Toyota they simply used regular yellow bottle Prestone and recommended changing it every year. I don't believe Prestone still makes it though. What they have now is a universal coolant they say is good for up to 5 years or 50k miles.

Is it silicates? I think I've seen this before and they're just selling it as a universal coolant.
