I am in the process of rebuilding a vintage 3-point attached PTO driven post hole digger. It is a Danuser model F8. From old manuals that can be found online it called for Texaco Marfak #1 grease. The next more modern recommendation from the manufacturer was Texaco Multifak #2 grease. The most recent recommendation is Shell Gadus S2 V220 grease (Shell Alvania EP2 Grease). The stated capacity is 3 pounds. I am using Chevron Multifak EP 2. If anyone is rebuilding one of these too, I can post the Timken bearing numbers and seal numbers.

The grease goes inside the gearbox. It looks similar to a truck rear end inside.

Huh...... I just keep mine filled with used 15W-40 tractor oil.

I've never thought about putting grease in it.

Look into John Deere corn head grease I have a post hole digger and brush hog and they use 80w 90 gear oil.

I replaced all the bearings and seals. It had gotten water inside and pitted the roller bearings and races.
