I am in the process of replacing the Timing Belt Kit and all oil seals on a 98 4Runner and found that the crankshaft gear/sprocket was broken and "repaired" by the last person. The truck was running fine when it came in, so clearly the repair worked and has been working for a very long time. Let's just say that I am impressed.

Prying or someone dropped it.

Wanna bet someone took a pry bar to it instead of using a puller?

Yeah, I think someone pried on it. New one from Toyota is $71 msrp, but is one day out. So it has been sitting here since yesterday evening. The part is coming tomorrow. I was so impressed with the repair that I considered putting it back as is, but the customer wanted it replaced.

Probably, but I need the car gone ASAP.

+1

Looks like someone has done that repair before, as they knew not to weld/braze on the belt side. You can see is a bit out of round as the gap must have grown when welded/brazed. Big stones to do that and run it on a customers car. Lucky it held.
