Hello,
I am hoping someone on here can help me out.
I have been using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum for years in my wife and I's civics for years.
I recently purchased a 2014 Santa Fe sport with the 2.0T which is a TGDI engine, and because of this have been looking into LSPI and appropriate oils for a turbo DI engine.
Historically PUP and even PP have not had dexos1 gen2 approval, I have been unable to find an answer as to why, but beleve it might have something to do with calcium contents being too high.... it never really mattered to me as I've never had GDI before.
However, last year sometime I noticed regular PP has a green sticker that indicates it has been reformulantes for TGDI and meets dexos1 gen2, and SN PLUS.
However, the ULTRA platinum never got the certs/approvals.....
This brings me to my point....
Yesterday I picked up a 5L jug of PUP (ultra plat) and low and behold it now claims to exceed SN PLUS.....
HOWEVER.... still does not appear to meet dexos1 gen2 spec....... how can this be...?
It also does not have the "redesigned for TGDI" green sticker of the regular PP..... yet it's supposedly SN PLUS, which is the whole point of that spec.
So has it been reformulated?
Funny enough, if you go to the Pennzoil website under SN PLUS oils, the PUP doesn't show up.... only the PP does.....
I tried calling Pennzoil but was unable to get an an actual answer other than:
"your engine manufacturer doesn't require Dexos1 gen2 (obviously... it's not a GM) so you can use PUP safely, however, PUP is not appropriate for any vehicles requiring Dexos1 gen2"
Which doesn't answer anything.
Can anyone clarify this for me????
Thank you very much in advance.
