I keep reading all this hoopah about how Toyota back specced 5w20 for a bunch of engines in 2007 or 2008 but my car was made in 2011 and the cap still says 5w30, but its engine, a 2GR, was called out in 2007 or 2008 as being capable of using 5w20. So...umm.... What's the final verdict here? Is 5w20 good or not? You'd think that Toyota would update the oil cap to read 5w20 in the span of 3 or 4 years...

I wouldn't overthink it. With the climate you get in FL, I would run the 5W-30 and not think twice about it.

2006 IS350 with 5W-30 on the cap, and it's been getting PP 5W-30. Still runs very good at 161,000 miles.

It is backspecd to 0W20, not 5W20.
On my cap it says 0W20. As you can see, I am not using it.

I run 5w30 or 10w30 in my SiLs IS350c. No issues and that motor does not seem to be to hard on the oil I have found.

lower Noack, cold climate. For warmer climate I'd run 10w30 if noack is a concern.

Your Owner's Manual says 5w30. I'd take that as the recommendation needed, since it was printed well after the earlier Lexus service bulletin EG006-06 back in 2006. Plus, in FL, probably better to use 5w30. Pick a name-brand full-syn 5w30.

Thanks guys. I think I might just go with ME 0w30 AFE next time they have a rebate offer. Currently using Pennzoil Plat HM 5w30, and before that, SuperTech 5w20.
