Wondering what you guys use to hold the caliper pin from spinning without damaging the boot. I damaged 2 boots with the standard open end wrench. Need something thin. Assuming the sizes differ from one make to another so adjustable would be nice.

TIA

Gee, IDK!
I just use my fingers to pull back on the rubber boot seals and spin out the slider bolts/pins.
The slider bolts/pins must be really dry on your vehicle and the boots are melted to the bolts/pins/sliders.
These can also be easily removable & replaced as they're not permanent in the calipers. Should be able to get new ones locally or online without too much expense, if they're that bad.

Never use regular grease as it deteriorates rubber. Use disc brake silicone/lube of some decent reputation. CRC, Sil-Glyde, 3M, Permatex etc.

Are you & I talking about the same area of the caliper or am I thinking differently than what you are describing?

IDK either but I think he is talking about the pin with a hex and a bolt that needs to be removed to remove the caliper, to get the bolt out you need to hold the hex part of the pin, you need a thin wrench to get in there as the rubber boot is right behind it and easily damaged if you jam a normal thickness wrench in.

I found the perfect wrench for the slide pins on the Mazda. Its an old wrench that was part of my 1980's Mercedes tool kit. Its super thin and fits the tiny slot Mazda provided. All of my other wrenches were too thick.

Its this kind of boot. Not easy to keep them compressed and out of the way.

Some caliper brackets have a lock in the mold. These don't, so it just spins. Means my lube job was good, but makes it harder because it spins more easily, .

I like that! Is it specifically for a specific make?

No, they're universal.
