I traded in my Q50 and finally moved into a Subbie. I had to move out to the Midwest for a job and needed a vehicle that could handle the snow a little better.

My wife is hoping to pick up a new Crosstrek as well.

Nothing too exciting for others but I'm pretty estatic.

the subaru legacy sedan that i test drove was quite pleasant. i was pleasantly surprised by the cvt. compared to the forester and outback, deals seem available on the legacy. if i were to replace my passat with another sedan i would lean to a legacy. o.p. please give updates on your legacy.

I'm going to push for my wife to test drive a Legacy whenever she finally replaces her present car, but I hope that they have some kind of a turbo as the high performance option instead of a V6 when we get to that point.
She really likes a sedan and she needs something better for climbing hills in the winter than her Avalon.
She always says that she doesn't care about having a powerful engine, but I noticed that her last two cars moved pretty well...

Nice choice! I'm finally making progress in moving my wife to Subarus as well... she detested how my 01 Forester looked, and has generally stood firm on her "but I NEED a minivan" because of the grandkids... then I got her to drive a 15 Outback. She's coming around... when it's time to retire the Odyssey I'm pretty sure an Ascent will be taking its place.

After that piece of the puzzle is in place, then it's time to replace my Outback with a WRX

I'm wondering if Subaru is going to start pushing the 2.4 Turbo down into the Legacy/Outback to replace the 3.6 as it's getting long in the tooth, and amp it up some to replace the EJ257 in the WRX STI. Considering Subaru bumped up the power fairly significantly for the S209 model coming up, I'd hope to see at least 360HP in the STI version

Enjoy! I have only driven Outback version and its pretty nice car.

I'd suggest winter tires if snow is part of equation mainly due to fact of clearance in snow binding the vehicle up occasionally. My wife had the 2005 Legacy wagon and its limiting factor always seemed to be its 5" of clearance in winter events and winter tires definitely help drag its belly around.

Hadn't heard about the STI S209...those are great machines but Subaru needs to update them.
I would imagine that 2.4l DIT is going to show up in more vehicles with some tuned for a lot more power than in the Ascent. I know the Ascent is not meant to be a speed demon, but the max power numbers for that 2.4l are just a shade above those for my 2.0l.

I completely agree... and I hope that Subaru continues to work on the 2.4 Turbo like they exploited the EJ series- from a lowly, 120HP NA 2.2 all the way up to a mighty 340HP today in the EJ257. If that kind of power increase comes, we should hope to see a 400HP 2.4 STI some day

Was Q50 AWD or RWD?

Get snow tires! Seriously!

AWD doesn't decrease stopping distance on snow, or the traction needed to avoid an accident.

That is why I asked is Q50 AWD, than you just get snows. I can see people not be willing to deal with RWD on daily bass if a lot of snow is in question.
Most vehicle that stuck in snow that I see are precisely Subaru Outback's because of this thinking.

The 2020 Outback will allegedly arrive this summer, and be available with the 2.4L turbo motor.

:

The FA24F should be awesome just like the FA20. It now has a year under its belt. Its a bored out. FA20. I might be slightly apprehensive as when the FB 25 was bored out from the FB 20 there were ring problems. But the problem was it wasn't the turbo and needed to do great on gas mileage. The rings will be tighter on the FA24 and will use 30wt oil.

I would like to see them put the FA20 non turbo into cross trek instead of the FB20 but it won't happen.
