Hello all,

Attached is a UOA from my father's 2014 Toyota Tacoma 2.7L business truck.

We bought it back in July 2018 and oil changed by Ford dealer. Motorcraft oil + filter.

Truck for work, 99% city driving and towing a trailer. Lots of stop and go.

Current fill is Pennzoil Platinum 0W-20 Full Synthetic + Motorcraft filter.

What do you think? Oil change will be done @ 5K intervals as per owner's manual.
Since it is used for my father's business, last thing I want is a blown engine.

Take care
SMB

I'd run that forever in FL. on a full SN 10W30, this example is a TGDI slanted formula, better oil is available.

In his location even 10w-30 would be great and is often on sale for less.

yes.

That wasn't 0w20 5w20 in there if you believe Black Stoned Lavatories test result data.

No one agrees? The data Elephant in the room here?!

I agree that something doesn't add up here.

Regardless, it looks like the engine is just fine with 5k intervals with thin oil, even with the added fuel in the sump.

Keep on truckin'

At the huge Ford dealer here all the 0w20 oil they have is in quart containers that they have to get from the parts dept. It's also a syn-blend that is used for the C-Max hybrid. The 5w20 and 5w30 MC syn-blend oils are in huge containers at the QuickLane. I've used both before with zero hesitation when asking for it. But with the 0w20 it kind of threw them for a loop. Then I watched them walk over to the parts dept and ask for it. Which they did for no extra charge. And this is for my 05 Toyota. Below is my uoa of the 0w20 syn-blend.

The '14 Tacoma does spec 0w20 but they prob just put in 5w20 since that's their main oil and seems suitable for the engine. Although I do believe they have a full synthetic 5w20 that they sell for about $50 per oil change that I've seen on their service menu board but haven't used that myself.
