Does anyone know when Dodge trucks removed the gear shift lever and replaced it with a selector knob on the dash? Does anyone have any opinions about this?

Wikipedia may or may not have the answer. And it might depend on the transmission the truck has, even in the same model year. Ram has replaced the Dodge name 8 or 9 model years ago

I'm not sure when they did it. I have driven them and it is the only thing I don't like about the truck. Having said that I would still take a Ram over any of the Ford or GM offerings.

2013 was the first year for the Ram started using the knob on some of their trucks depending on the model 1500/2500 etc. But now they all have it i believe. (Depends on the transmission)

I'm not sure about the 2019 Rams, but up until 2018, you could still get a 1500 with the 6spd auto and a column shift. All 1500s equipped with the 8spd auto have the rotary dial shift. So basically, if your late model RAM 1500 has a column shift, it's a 6spd.
