GMC oil fill tube

Hello, I have a 2003 GMC 1500HD with the 6.0l engine. I was going to replace the O-ring on the oil filler tube and broke it taking out of the valve cover. The cap fits on the cover and i am tempted to leave it that way but I also like things the way they are supposed to be. Am I overthinking this?

I think the oil filler tube is just a convenience thing to keep you from having to use a funnel.

Yeah - my newer engines don't have those so I bought a funnel that J's into that same fill cap profile ... You can find the necks on ebay or auto parts stores on the internet ...
