Just bought this from an online auction.
1998 GMC K3500 4x4
5.7 w/ 110,000

I believe it has had low oci with 5w30 dino. I believe it calls for 5w30. I would really like to use some Rotella T5 10w30 that I have, but also have a jug of PP HM 5w30. I am in Illinois and see temps from -10 to 100+ and will probably do annual changes or 5k.

Which oil would you use and why? Thanks!

If it were me - with lots of 0W-20 that I got on clearance, I'd run a couple qts of that with pretty much anything else.

Honestly, even in Illinois 10W-30 will work fine in a small block Chevy.

I use 10w30 in a 2006 Cadillac 3.6 that calls for 5w30. I use 10w30 in a 2015 Silverado 2500 6.0 that calls for 5w30. If there is a problem, these two vehicles never got the memo. Iowa and Northern Illinois on the same parallel.

Linctex, You are correct, I have 0w20 running out my ears. Mix it you say? What would I mix with PP 0w20 to make it close to 5w30? 10w40 @ a 1:1 ratio? Is mixing really a good idea? If so, I could stand to use up some 0w20!

I use that mix for clearance oil (1:1 0W-20 & 10W-40) to make a 10W-30 for my jeeps. Has been good for a couple of years

I actually have 3 (5) qt jugs of Mobil 5w20 Annual Protection that I got for $10 each and the same amount of Mobil 1 0w40. Seems to be that might be a good mix for the 5.7 in the winter.

I would run 10w30, nothing thinner than 5w30 in a sbc or bbc. Even no towing, its lugging around 6200lbs! I have the same truck with 454, its 6550lbs!

Me too, and run the 10W30 in the warmer weather.
