Didn't we just gave a thread on a competing product from Shell? What's the point of these products!

"Specially formulated for trucks and SUVs. Extra protection for hardworking engines"

lol okay...

It's standard marketing. The point of the products is to take up more shelf space so they can crowd out their competitors. Lots of big name brands do it, that's why they're always coming out with something new and interesting to jack up sales and take up more space, space that won't go to a competitor. No sales data so the retailer will probably take some payment for the shelf space and if it doesn't sell, then they'll get rid of it. Witness Annual protection...

Then more marketing.

Marketing -

you can charge more for the same product if you make the consumer believe it is "special" in some way

Way back in time … I only recall it in 5w30 … we will see what they mean by extra add pack but VI pretty good …

"Formulated with high-performance base oils and a 10% boost in an additive that helps prevent deposit formation and protects against wear"

Just 10%? My hardworking engines demand 12%.

I recall it being a 5W40 and it being a watered down Delvac-1.

Perhaps, 10% more ester? It wouldn't mean anything. In fact, 10% more of most additives wouldn't mean anything.

MSDS shows 5 - 10% PAO and 10 - 20% GTL for M1 T&S 5W-30 -- cheaper base oil than M1 (20 - 30% PAO).

My take: M1 or M1 EP are better for any application.

Yes they did and it has been around for years.

Are you referring to M1 Turbo Diesel Truck? If so, this version is for gas engine.

kv100 & hths diff between this oil (truck & suv 5Wx30) and M1 EP 5Wx30:

KV100 = 11.5 vs. 10.6 for EP.
HTHS = 3.0 for both.

Mystery solved:

M1 HM 5Wx30 has KV100 of 12.1 and hths of 3.1

Looks like 50/50 mix of M1 HM and M1 EP ...
