Hello, Do anyone know the cheapest source to buy ZF lifeguard 6 transmission fluid? The car is a 2004 Bmw 525i with a ZF 6 speed transmission...Thanks

I've had Pentosin ATF1 in mine for the last 12,000 miles with no issues. I would have tried maxlife, but from the research I did the viscosity of the Pentosin was closer to lifeguard 6.

Many choices to choose from, Reading a few posts from another forum some have used Mercon SP successfully?

Maxlife works in ZF 6 speed transmissions?

According to slacktide_bitog (and some other folks on here), all stepped-gear automatics should be filled with Maxlife or the cheapest available "synthetic" universal ATF. Supposedly, there is no difference in ATF specs and it is all the same stuff....

Yes it does. But take into consideration that ZF6 is true synthetic gear oil. It is expensive, but IMO it is worth.
Unless you are doing flush (which you should not) use ZF6 so you do not mix oils. It is transmission oil and you are not changing it often.

ZF6 is a mineral oil.

Mercon SP is the same oil (made in the USA) by Shell for Ford.

ZF6/Mercon SP may have been special in the early 00's, but not anymore.

I second this !! IIRC the owner of the site is a former ZF engineer.

OP: The fluid is Shell M 1375.4 and marketed as Lifeguard 6 / Mercon SP.

ZF6 is not a synthetic. Where are you finding this Malarkey?

I dunno about using maxlife in a bmw.. I do not a agree with 1 size fits all for ATF aka Universal ATF nor do many Transmission proffesionals and atf makers.... Did you see the video Idemitsu made and posted on you tube?

Well if not you should see this.. Also perhaps if you are low to add 1 quart of a universal ATF like MaxLife is okay however a drain and fill is not advisable.

toyota at is different then bmw and is differnet then nissan ect ect.. Watch the video and see if the experts are wrong and max life is right.
