Will a few hundred PSI difference in release pressure of an old-style injector on an IDI diesel warrant an adjustment in injection pump timing?
The engine in question is a Mercedes OM617. Car ran real well and would get good mileage (28) but the injectors were, as confirmed by post-op inspection, in need of service and were popping in the 1,700-1,800 PSI range. New nozzles were calibrated to around 2,050 PSI (spec is 135-143 bar) and I'm curious if a degree or two more advance on the pump would be a good thing to get the final timing back where it was.
