Aisin DW-1 ATF specs?

I found the reason. They don't have it as maxlife, only Valvoline high mileage.

Facing basic price parity, I will weigh the options.

I managed to convince the boss to assist me on the fluid change, so I will be buying 3 gallons of Maxlife from AZ for expediency sake. If anything untoward develops, the RockAuto price will be fine to do another full swap. The change should take only 2 gallons but if it needs more, I will have it and the leftover can go for a drain and fill in a year (15-20k miles or so).

Thanks for the feedback.

If anyone ever tries the Aisin DW-1, please post to BITOG. I'd be interested in the results. I have a feeling that I am becoming a Honda person for my less sporty options.

I ordered the ML ATF from WM online and it was delivered to my home for about $17 a gallon. I have been using this in our Civic since about 30k. At 131k now and still shifts like day 1. Just my .02

I bought some of this fluid and have done 2 out of the 3 drain and refills on my 2015 Accord V6. So far so good and i am thinking of sending a VOA to Blackstone so we can compare that to the Honda branded DW-1

Price is going to have to come down some though. I like the idea of it, but I haven't been able to find it anywhere that's not the same or more than just buying 12 quarts of DW1.

WorldPac already shows a price for the Type-H+, but it is not available yet. The price shown is about 20% less than the wholesale cost of ATF-DW1.

Just for S&G I sent off an email to Idemitsu re: availability. They were prompt with answering, but unfortunately, both of the replies are pretty much non-answers:

Dear Shawn,

H Plus is currently available on Amazon, however it is currently out of stock.

https://www.amazon.com/Idemitsu-H-Plus-A...idemitsu+H+Plus

The only other outlet would be a shop that receives our product from a warehouse distributor.

Hope that helped.

So if the Aisin VOA is representative and accurate (no reason to think otherwise), safe to say the topic fluid not same as DW1.

That said, as I use MaxLife in my for Z1 applications and would for out of warranty DW1 apps too, similarly topic ATF could (as Bl-St noted) also be fine in DW1 applications. And, apparently working fine for the one anecdote noted here.

Thanks for the ATF VOA.

But Idemitsu they are the only global authorized supplier for DW-1 transmission fluids.

I mean, they're certainly a reputable company and certainly have some familiarity with various transmissions (ironically, not Honda transmissions as Honda builds them in-house).

Generally speaking, engine and transmission manufacturers draw up the specifications for the lubricant and do not blend their own lubricants.

The engineers communicate with additive company labs.

An additive company formulates and tests the complete additive package in-house .

A blender then takes the additive package and blends base oils with it.

Blender then has the finished lubricant tested and results go to OEM for approval.

If everything is hunky-dory, OEM approves blender for sole-sourcing FF and for dealers.

Example: Many of the later Dexron fluids for GM were developed by Afton in cooperation with and speced by GM Driveline Div. engineers.

PetroCanada then took Afton's additive packages and blended the finished ATF for FF and to dealers.

Thereafter, other equivalent fluids come into the market by licensing the patents, or purchasing the additive package, or by reverse engineering.

Blenders can only receive a certification and OEM licensing after tests results are approved by OEM.

Just so i understand correctly, Petro-Can uses their own Base stocks and adds their version of additive to produce a Honda DW-1 ATF image [so to speak?]?

My wife has a 2012 Honda Accord that developed a transmission shutter at around 150,000 miles. I did the standard 3 quart dump and replaced the 3 quarts with Castrol MultiImport Transmax (dw-1 compatible fluid according to the back of the bottle...may have been the synthetic, im not sure). It fixed 90% of the transmission shutter, but it slowly started to come back. I decided to do a complete flush. The Castrol was purchased at Autozone for around $8-9.00 a quart. I found the same Aisin from rock auto and bought 9 quarts for around 4.50 and shipping cost an additional dollar because I was already ordering some parts. I did a complete flush and the car drove like it was brand new. This post is about 6 months since I did the flush with Aisin DW-1 fluid and it still drives and shifts like new. I will buy again without hesitation.

It's good that it fixed the issue for you but the Aisin fluid is not actual DW-1 fluid, only the Honda brand fluid is. That doesn't mean it isn't any good but it isn't actual DW-1.

+1 Good to see this noted again. Seems to be some implication that topic fluid is DW1. VOA this thread says otherwise.

Also I too no problem with it's use, just not saying it's identical to DW1. Being satisfied with readily available ML use in a couple Honda vehicles, I wouldn't pay more for topic fluid.
