I used this for 5k on my 2013 Mazda 2. Oil was Pennzoil hm 5w30.
Bought for $1.50 at Walmart couple years ago. I think it's built like the current red ones. Was apparently just before they completed the change.
Date code f09g15e7.

Louvers look good.

No tears. I pushed like heck on the media and there was no give.

Pleats are uniform and well spaced.

Adbv is fine

I have 2 more of these to use. Will probably just leave them on for 7500 oci. I replaced it with an oem filter though for this oci as I have 3 of those too.

If you like to gamble, then buying a Purolator is like sitting down at a dice table at your nearest Gambling Casino.
Yours looks fine at a distant glance at your pics. But a fair share built today do not.

Beware and roll those dice at your own risk of catching a damaged / defective one next time.
No thanks for my next purchase. But thanks for sharing your pics.

Thanks OP

Filter looks well made and fully capable. I still use Puro on occasion too.

My feelings exactly. I dumped Purolator years ago. There are better filters for the money, there's no need for me to gamble with them.

The small tear that "might" occur will have little affect. if any on the engine. If a tear occurs, it usually will happen when it's getting time to dump it anyway. I am using up my Classics but I do not go over 4k miles. That filter pictured go go further.

Small tear won't kill an engine.

I have about 20 Purolator oil filters and will continue to use them for the Honda fleet.

I agree there are better constructed oil filters out there such as Denso for same amount of money.

I like coffee grounds in my cup because some of the low quality coffee filters I bought have a tear in them ... lol.

I've cut open a few PL14459 and never seen a media tear or pinched adbv in the ones i dissected. But i clearly understand everyone's concerns.

Small engine and not a super wide pleat, all don't tear depending on the stress on the pleat. Most don't tear. But there is a chance. Like there is a chance a Tough Guard will shed potting glue into the engine. Which I found, and is why I would never use one again. But some brands get a pass and some don't. brand bias. So far the filters with no defects have been the Toyota Denso, most European, and most of the Chinese made.

No issues thus far with the Purolator One PL24457 on our 87 Brat; never an issue with Purolator PBL14615 on our recently demised 2008 Sub OBS, our 17 OB 2.5, or my son's 18 Crosstrek. I have also used a PBL14610 on our 17 OB (not a clear application) and have one to use in our 18 Titan. Separately, have had great experience with Bosch, Fram Ultra and TG and Pennzoil Platinum filters also and will continue to use these as well depending on sale and availability. Presently have a Fram Ultra 7317 on the 17 Outback and not too thrilled with the momentary start up rattle; will revert to the PBL14615 for the next change. However, have a spare Ultra 7317 to try on the Titan some day, i.e. after I run out of Nissan filters. For the BMW's it is Hengst, Mahle or Mann. Hence, no clear filter brand loyalty here, but at the same time, not influenced over the Purolator bashing that is rampant out there.

Seriously! Those coffee grounds you have been digesting are sitting in your kidneys. There's only room for x-amount more.
So beware!

You are a couple or 3 years late to the party when there were many pictures of torn Purolators posted here. Out of curiosity, I cut open five used Purolators that were in my garage waiting to be disposed of. Two of those were torn (sorry, no pics). I will need to see many, many more pics like the ones posted here before I will trust Purolator again. They are not supposed to tear.

That filter looks fine and held up well. I too have used several Purolators over the years and never had a tear or any other issues. Having said that, I have seen many posts about the tears so I am skeptical and don't buy them anymore. Now if I had some left, I would use them in a heartbeat...

The 14612 size does looks good. This size has pretty much been issue free. Only 1 has torn on the seam while service. And there have been many 14612s cut and opened on here. So.. for oil filters this size they really are good to go. Another factor that helps these filters is that they are very short. It is the 14610s that seem to have had the most problems.

Thank you for your cut and post here.

Sounds like you would send your daughter into a subdivision for her first home, knowing that 2 of the 100 homes have uncovered cracked basement-level foundations and there might be more, yet to be uncovered.

Keep gambling hero..... march-on to the Purolator tune!

This one looks good at 5k miles. No adbv indentions/cuts noted or seen, a plus. Unlike other applications this and 14610 don't have the central adbv pressure directly against the inlet holes. Thanks for c&p.

I guess I should be headed to the nearest Gambling Casino I've used Purolator's on my Corolla since before 2010 off and on and never had a Tearalator in the PureOne or the new Purolator One blue 10K mile can? I'm not saying they don't happen but personally I've never had one??
