I guess.....

Seam around and that area just is wider than 3 axe handles

Unfortunately, Purolator is really failing badly at everything. That filter fits a lot of cars & trucks, both Ford and others. Amazing how even the cheap AAP Total Grip filters (by Puro) look worlds better than the newer MC ones. I personally can't believe Ford hasn't dumped them.

They have no reason to..... 99% of their customers don't care, or don't think about it

Great point Linctex.

As ugly as some of these MCs look, I doubt any of them would have trouble with a 3-5k OCI... but I wouldn't waste any synthetic with these. Run MC blend and MC filter in something that's already paid itself off

Shame they went to louvers, used to be my go-to for my fleet of 70's and 60's Fords but will likely be switching to Napa Gold or Fram from now on. FL1A avoided the louvers for the longest time but oh well. Since I run 15W-40 HDEO in all but one of those old cars, I don't want flow compromised! I hope Mann+Hummel doesn't give the louver treatment to NG and Wix filters either.

So I am running FL1A's on my jeep and the ranger because I thought they were a decent filter and are cheap/easy to pickup at walmart. Should I switch over to the Fram TG8A for ~$2.50 more? I am running only a 3k interval with HM 10w-40's on the jeep 4.0 and 5 or 10w-30 synthetic's or maybe chevron supreme 5w-30 on the ranger at 5k interval's.

Run TGs for two OCIs (or) run an Extra Guard for your 3K OCIs.
Or find another store and use Wix for two OCIs (3k+3k).
