Hey all,

Hoping someone here might be able to shed some light on how to fix my printer. After pulling it out of storage unit, wasn't used since May until today, when I turn it on I am getting a "There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off, then on. If problems persist, contact HP."

I followed this site: https://support.hp.com/ee-en/document/c03439615

I removed the print head numerous times, everything is clean. Nothing is rusted, which I thought might've happened after being in storage in humid Florida all summer, however, the unit was climate controlled. Not sure what else to do. Worked perfectly when put into storage.

Any ideas would be appreciated before I order a new printhead. The warranty is expired, naturally.

"Stored" Ink carts are notoriously bad at plugging up, only solution is to buy another.

If you don't like this issue and don't use your printer more than once a month buy yourself a black and white laser and don't look back

Other option is to soak the head in rubbing alcohol, if that's not strong enough acetone but usually those won't work

I've had printer failures too, but it can be fixed.

Way back in the beginning, I tried rubbing alcohol, etc, mediocre results or worse!

One day I watched a guy at printer ink shop and noticed a scent.....and blue stuff in a small ultrasound tank....it was
Windex with ammonia D!!!!!

Turns out even dollar store blue window cleaner works wayyyyyyy better then rubbing alcohol!!!

Since then I got a cleaning ammonia I got on special and add a few spoonfuls to my cheapo windex, works even better.

If a cartridge won't leave an ink blotch on a tissue, then it needs soaking in windex 1/4" deep or even a 2 minute dip
in cheap ultrasound tank (used for jewelry) When I use my tank, I add windex plus 50% warm water then dip cartridge
print head in 1/4" deep max for 2 minutes at a time. Ink should shoot out fairly soon. Dab dry and see if it will make an even ink mark
on tissue then try in printer. Then use the printer cleaning cycle and scrap paper.

Good luck!!

HP uses a water based ink. Solvents won't dissolve water based inks. Soak the cartridge head in warm water or some glass cleaner. If that doesn't work buy a re-manufactured cartridge.
