ok , i have a friend that has a old Fergeson tractor its a MODEL TO 35

and we need to change the tranny fluid and the book says use a SAE 80 wt oil ?

it has Brass bushing inside it.

in search of what to use ...? some say you have to use a low detergent oil ?

My father had one of those, 1952-68. Back in the day, I think they used special Ferguson oil, which came in a gray 5-gallon bucket. I was under the impression it was similar to #90 gear oil---at least much thicker than later typical tractor fluids like IH HyTran. It was used in the internal hydraulics, as well as gearing of the transmission, differential, and PTO drive gears.

A Massey-Ferguson dealer should know. (Massey-Harris and Ferguson merged later in the 1950s, but the tractors retained much of the older Ferguson design.)

GL5 wasn't even dreamed of in the mid-late 50's for his TO35.. I wouldn't use that regardless of your "luck". There is a Fergie spec. for the required oil which is what I would use.
