For my friends that understand ACEA better than me...

In my 2005 Ranger (85k miles) I use A5/B5 oil. Would you switch to an A3/B3? And why?

In my 2000 4Runner (250k miles) I use A3/B3 oil. Would you switch to an A5/B5? And why?

I know B3 is outdated but it's what Mobil1 HM lists.

This is NOT an oil brand or oil grade thread. I use Mobil1 HM and that's it.

Thanks to all that contribute a positive reply...

A3/B3 is a high HT/HS viscosity spec. Do these engines call for such high HT/HS viscosity? If not, then no point running A3/B3 oil in them, IMO.

I've come to be a "thicker is better" guy. I used an A3/B4 in my E450 which calls for a 20 grade(C5 in ACEA speak) and noticed no difference in mileage or performance.

If the price is right, I would think your motors don't care.

Thank you to everyone for the reply's.

Thanks Quattro Pete. Your response has pointed me to an interesting direction and point of investigation!

I guess there is not much interest in ACEA specs in this thread. I think I will try on the Euro oil thread.

Also, I guess there is no interest in a thread where you can't throw out your favorite brand or grade of oil...
