I have a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the V8 Hemi engine and need to know what type of Mopar antifreeze to use.

A Jeep maintenance I follow says to use Part 68048953 AB for the 2011-2012 models ( Mopar HOAT coolant ) This coolant is orange in color.

I went to the dealer today, told him what I had and he sold me 68048953 AC, which has a red color. Can I use this or do I need the AB?

Also, I am assuming I should mix this 50/50 water+antifreeze?

Thanks

The owner's manual is pretty unclear too:

"MOPAR Antifreeze/Coolant 5 Year/100,000 Mile Formula HOAT
(Hybrid Organic Additive Technology)"

To my knowledge (?) the AA, AB, and AC designations are just an upgraded current part number. It first came out as AA, then AB, and now it is AC. I "think" with some parts, the newest version might or might not be a changed, improved version. It just depends.

Their newest fluids catalog ONLY lists the AC part number: https://www.dealers-mopar.com/resources/pdf/chemical/chemical-catalog.pdf

Here's an example where it says AA replaced by AC: https://www.moparpartsgiant.com/parts/mopar-antifreez-coolant~68048953aa.html

.....and AB replaced by AC: https://www.moparpartsgiant.com/parts/mopar-antifreez-coolant~68048953ab.html

There have been talks on FCA forums about goofy color differences. I can't seem to post a picture, but open the link below to see shades of orange/red.

Use Zerex G-05, you can get it just about anywhere. Mixing OAT and HOAT is a formula for a very expensive to fix disaster. This was quite common a few years ago. What amazes me is there are still some Chrysler dealers screwing this up.

+1 on the Zerex G-05. Just looked at it and it states Chryser/Jeep up to 2012. It's very pale yellow.

It can be, and it can be costly, even topping up with a small amount of OAT coolant. Just grab a jug of Zerex G-05 and you're GTG.

The G-05 is just as good and probably a lot cheaper. Just saying..........

Either the coolant you have or the G05 will be fine...they are the same coolant. Only the dye is different.
