Should be exciting, maybe Vettel will have so much of an advantage he can relax and not blow the race on the first lap this time...

Even at Monza last race, Vettel was a little to eager to have a bump with Lewis on the first lap. To many years looking up to Schumacher I guess!

Doesn't look like Vettel is in a good position to win this race at all, Lewis is going to take this one

It'll be interesting. Lewis has had a pretty naff weekend thus far except for one lap when it counted, and he was unable to get close to that a second time with fresh tyres. The tyre strategy is going to cause a flurry of relatively early pit stops, which should mix things up a bit and make the first couple of laps less relevant.

This business of having to go to extremes to get out of the way of the front runners is over applied. Racers aren't out there to make it easy for anyone. Does Hamilton give anyone a break for whatever reason? Vettel? It's a RACE and you should have to get around everyone. I fear I begin to see increasing bias towards an American team again. Can't have those uppity Yanks getting in the way. The very gall of them!

I wouldn't worry about that so much, pretty much nobody outside of America thinks of Hass as an American team.

Grosjean was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Had it been any other driver the penalty would have been the same and I don't disagree with your sentiment. Let the racers race. Don't compromise their race simply because the guys out front have trouble overtaking.

It certainly wasn't as bad as Perez complaining that Sirotkin was impeding him in the race when he hadn't even lapped him. He wants help to get by from race control? Maybe Vettel should have had Charlie get Verstappen and Hamilton to move out of the way by the same rationale. Then Kimi and Bottas could have done the same thing.

Between that and the crash (well, two crashes), I wonder if they're beginning to think they're letting the wrong driver go. I suspect Perez will have a very whiny season next year.

DeepFriar: If you look at old races on YouTube (not enough old ones on the F1 service yet), the back markers often got out of the way of people lapping them anyhow, all on their own. I understand the point of blue flags, but it's not like the people in the back are getting any benefit out of holding back Lewis Hamilton in the first place. Trying to defend against an actual threat, or trying to pass someone you actually can, isn't helped by hindering someone lapping you just because you can. I should think most drivers realize that, and I don't recall it being a huge problem in years past. Now, if any races are the exception, it might be Monaco and Singapore, because of the tightness of the track.

Sirotkin was getting a bit ragged, but there's no rule against a slower car holding up a competitor for track position. I couldn't believe what Perez did frankly and "only" got a drivethrough for it. I'd have black flagged him.

Despite the fact I think he's a twonk, Hamilton drove a flawless race and deserved that win.

I do wonder how may times Vettel can get away with criticizing the team before they do what they did to Prost and give him the heave-ho? I guess Vettel does it using lots of little underhanded digs, where Prost was more forthright (although it's so long ago now I've actually forgotten the specifics. I just remember thinking "they've fired the best driver in the field because he was unkind about the car?!?").

Hard to say. Martin Brundle said a couple years or so ago he didn't expect Vettel to hang around for the long haul. If he were to get turfed, I wonder if he'd bother looking for another seat. If he couldn't slide into Mercedes into Hamilton's position, I'm not sure what he'd do.

Yeah, there's no doubting Hamilton's ability. He's cracker jack no matter what I sometimes think of his maturity.

Brad_C : I know you're right, most do not consider Haas "American". But there are many others based in Motorsports Valley who fall in that category as well. It's just a way of dismissing people who are finding their way into midfield when longer serving veteran teams are lagging, including a works team of two. Fine I say, keep pounding them while they keep beating you. I feel your pain......

I like Totos more measured perspective where you have to respect that those backmarkers are also trying to have their own race, and are racing for position rather than the "I'm in front they should just get out of my way, waaa, waaa, waaa".
