Exactly! Unfortunately, unless you personally play with a specific unit, you will never know if the display will be visible in mid-day afternoon while you have sunglasses on. At least for diving through multiple menus or un-intuitive interface is something you could pro-actively find out via user guide of the specific model pdf file. For example, when you press the only big round button on the stereo, instead of turning on or off the stereo, it goes in to setup mode :-(

For the display problem, the only viable solution is to get marine unit which are specifically designed to be able read in direct sunlight.
