Toyota OEM filter for Venza replace at 15,000 miles

Venza 2.7 L 4 cylinder air filter replaced after 15,000 miles. It is a Toyota brand filter made by Denso




I replaced it with a NAPA Gold 9223



Surprisingly for a NAPA Gold filter, it looks very much like a Purolator Pure One filter # A35649. Similar appearance and same 21 pleats. Yet the NAPA has a part # like a Wix, which is 49223 -- but the appearance does not look like a Wix 49223. The Wix 49223 in the Wix catalog looks very similar to the Toyota filter. The picture of the NAPA web page for part # 9223 also looks like the Wix filter, and does not resemble the NAPA Gold filter I installed yesterday.

some toyota filters are fuzzy, some wix are "hard" paper looking

Replaced at 15,000 miles? Too soon. Those things can easily go 50,000 miles if you don't live in the desert or don't drive down a lot of dirt roads.

We have wildfires on a very regular basis around here. Changing my air filters every year regardless of miles

That one could've safely gone a lot farther, but it doesn't look as nearly new as mine did after about 3X the mileage.

I liked the fuzzy ones from Toyota for my Corolla.

The new Fram Ultra air filters have a fuzzy layer. The box shows a completely different filter for some reason. The box for my application was the same.

This is the air filter I'd use for the Venza. I like the Fram Ultra air filters, and I would use them in any car they make them for

I got a Wix 49223 today from Rock Auto for next time, and it indeed looks just like the NAPA Gold 9223 that I installed in the Venza on Sunday, so I conclude that the NAPA Gold is still a Wix filter. It looks like Wix has redesigned the 49223. Wix uses synthetic media in the filter.

I use only wix filters personally. Nothing wrong with the fram though...just a Wix guy

15,000 miles seems like overkill to me on an air filter change, especially given the picture., but if it works for you then . Just out of curiosity what does you manual state for an interval? The wife's 2014 T&C says 30K miles as a reference, so you are half of that frequency.
