fyi this is a 'thin' 40 weight oil
I have done 36,000kms on my 2017 1200GS and after trying the Castrol 5W40 oil (my Dealer uses it too) and many other brands with different 100C cSt values, I am of the opinion the LC 1200 motor is happier with a thick 40 weight.
These motors on a cold start up are relatively quiet, but once at operating temps, the engine internals make a lot of noise (which seems typical for the LC motor) and i find it objectionable (and i wear earplugs) and an indication imo that there is something not quite right with the design/operation of these engines, or maybe it needs 15W50 like the models before the Liquid Cooled engine. Maybe the change to 5W40 is just for achieving better Corporate economy & environmental improvements.
But, they seem to last and they perform very well.
