I am not sure if that is the logic, or if people suspect that a lot of oil gets caught in the heads under certain conditions.
Another way to add more oil to the system without increasing the sump level is to use a larger filter. Wix 51773 or equivalent will fit the 460 and hold about an extra quart of oil.
