TITAN GT1 PRO C3 5W30 has the VW 504 and 507 approval (as well as BMW LONGLIFE-04, MB 229.51 and PORSCHE C30)

and then there is

TITAN GT1 PRO FLEX 5W30 which has VW 502 00/505 00 and .01 (as well as BMW LONGLIFE-04, dexos2, and MB 229.51 and .52)

(The application I am interested in is for a Golf R (MY 2018) i.e. an oil with simply a 502 or 504 rating so both oils are 'permitted' with respect to warranty purposes).

I would want something with high saps to deal with the sulphur in our fuel.

Strange about these recommendations, as BMW LL-04 can not be used with north american gas engines.

That's only BMW's recommendation for its own models. Nothing to say other lower-SAPS specs couldn't be appropriate in other cars.

Of the two oils listed, I'd go for the VW 504/507 option, mainly because it's the tougher of the two options VW calls for in that engine.

MB 229.52 is nice, but the few times I've spoken with industry folks, I've heard much more reverence for VW 504/507.

Maybe in Canada but the USA has acceptable fuel. The reason was not only sulfur but E10, today even BMW is behind E10, LL-04 appears to be a non issue as is 504/507.

I would go with the 504/507 as I've heard it's a very hard spec to get as it sets the bar very high.

If I had to guess, then I suspect the C3 504/507 oil would be lower SAPS than the Flex dexos2 oil, but neither are high-SAPS oil. I would also guess that the C3 may be PAO based while the Flex may be Group III based, but that is just a guess going by other oils with similar specs.

Thanks all. I too think having the 504/507 rating is a worthwhile distinguishing feature. (Although either would be just fine in this application)

Be careful with anything like this, VW 502 00/505 00 has been revised and this oil won't comply. The approval will expire if not already.

You can imagine it is a bit hard to second guess any oil that has a 502/505 approval when this designation is shown right under the hood. Can you elaborate?

Might this be what you are referring to i.e

The link below takes you to an Audi USA TSB issued in October 2017

ie 17 Engine oils that meet Audi Oil Quality Standards 501 01, 502 00, 504 00, 505 00, 505 01, 507 00, 508 00,
and 509 00

VW APPROVED OILS

And as far as I can see neither of my previously mentioned FUCHS 5W30 oils is included in the list

(And yet both oils show approval on the bottle)

What is one to do ie how can one every keep up?

The States still has a waiver on sulfur levels, for the next couple years or so, and our rules are much the same. Canadian gasoline rules follow American ones very closely and quickly. We've got ULSG on paper, too, but with exceptions for the next couple years or so, as well.

Of course, all things being equal and with a sensible OCI, it's really not an issue. Castrol states that a dexos2 5w-30 is perfectly acceptable for my G37, but the OEM OCIs simply aren't through the roof.

No, certainly not. I'm certain dexos2 will work very well in Vettes for a similar reason. If GM requires an annual oil change no matter how low the mileage is, I gather we'll see a lot of Vettes getting annual oil changes with very low miles, given how many of them sit and don't gather anything close to excessive mileage.
