VP Racing Oil

I would like to try some VP Racing synthetic oil in a very built 400 SBC. I have been running Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel. Have any of you tried the VP oil? Seems expensive at $15+ per quart. But looks like good stuff. Anyone know of a place with a better price.

With so many established oils readily available for much less this oil is an easy pass.

Very low TBN, has a lot of zinc, would definitely not be a long drain oil. I've been running Delvac 1300 15W40 in older flat tappet SBC engines with good success, haven't wiped a cam lobe with it yet!

Thank you. I like that high zinc. That's why I've been running the turbo diesel oil. And I use their fuel. But the price of their oil is expensive.

Royal Purple HPS is a quality high-zinc oil that is semi-readily available and about $8/qt.

You have roller lifters or flat tappets?

They are roller rockers. So shouldn't need as much ZDDP as flat tappets.

Seems pretty overpriced, much like their fuels.

I've been happy with Valvoline VR-1 oil in my race engines for 20+ years.

I have used VR-1 in the past and liked it. Also used Redline. I wonder how the VP oil compares to Redline.

I would have to say Redline is a better oil. I know vp makes good fuels, I use vp small engine fuel for my yard equipment, I use redline gear lubes. I don't believe they blend oil, not a RP fan.
