Good morning. I lost the keys/alarm remote to my 2007 Pontiac G6. I bought a new transponder key from the dealership, and thought it simple enough to program it according to a few Google searches, and YouTube videos. However, we had to cut the alarm wire to stop it from constantly going off (due to no remote) now the alarm is off, but I still was unable to program the key. Since the car isn't drive-able right now my question is should I have it towed to the dealership to have the key programmed, OR should I have it towed to a car alarm shop to remove the alarm first, and then try again to program the key myself. Also, on my dash there is a picture of a car with a lock through it (anti theft icon)FYI I searched that if I put the key in the ignition for 10 min in the run position, and remove and repeat 2 more times that should program the key. Is this not working due to the cut alarm wire??? HELP!!

You can't program a new key yourself without also having one or in some cases two old keys that are already programmed to the car. Should you lose all the keys the dealer will have to reprogram the car for new keys. Like everything else at a car dealer, you can try to negotiate the price of that.

Splice the wire back. The modern anti-theft systems make it so that someone won't be able to steal the car by simply cutting wires.

If the alarm system in question is aftermarket, have it removed as they cause more issues than they prevent. If it's the factory alarm system, reconnect the cut wire and call a mobile locksmith. They should be able to reprogram the key fobs substantially cheaper than a dealer.

Light on the dash seems to indicate a factory imobilizer. It may have an aftermarket alarm as well. So your problem my be two things to be programmed.

Does this key have the little chip in it, if it is anything like the old VATS system my prayers are with you...

If the aftermarket alarms got a starter kill relay, and it's armed, nothing you do with Passkey will get it going

Does it crank?

Search around the driver's footwell and knee bolster for the suspected aftermarket alarm module

Here's the Passkey programming instructions

Passkey III – transponder ignition key
The Passkey III anti-theft system uses a transponder inside the head of the ignition key. The
exciter inside the ignition lock cylinder energizes this transponder when the ignition switch is
turned on. The transponder transmits a unique signature to the theft deterrent control module.
If the key signature transmitted is acceptable to the theft deterrent control module, the theft
deterrent control module will transmit fuel enable password to the PCM. If the fuel enable
password is correct, the PCM will start the vehicle.
To perform a relearn on a Passkey III system, make sure there is a fully charged battery in the
vehicle. The battery will be used for 30 minutes without the alternator available for charging.
Connect a battery charger to the battery to ensure power is available while programming.
When performing this relearn, all previously learned keys will be erased. Additional keys may
be relearned immediately after the first key has been learned by inserting the additional key
and turning the ignition switch to on within 10 seconds of removing the previously learned key.
1. Insert a master key (black head) into the ignition switch.
2. Turn key to the “ON” position without starting the engine. Security light should turn on and
stay on.
3. Wait for 10 minutes or until the security light turns off.
4. Turn key to the “OFF” position for 5 seconds.
5. Turn key to the “ON” position without starting the engine. Security light should turn on and
stay on.
6. Wait for 10 minutes or until the security light turns off.
7. Turn key to the “OFF” position for 5 seconds.
8. Turn key to the “ON” position without starting the engine. Security light should turn on and
stay on.
9. Wait for 10 minutes or until the security light turns off.
10. Turn key to the “OFF” position. The key transponder information will be learned on the next
start cycle.
11. Start the vehicle. If the vehicle starts and runs normally, the relearn is complete. If additional
keys need to be relearned:
12. Turn the key to the “OFF” position.
13. Insert the next key to be learned. Turn the key to the “ON” position within 10 seconds of
removing the previously used key.
14. Wait for security light to turn off. It should happen fairly quickly. You may not notice the
lamp, as the transponder value will be learned immediately
15. Repeat steps 12 through 14 for any additional keys.

It is armed, and it's an aftermarket alarm, but the wire is cut. Unfortunately it does not crank. So the instructions that you listed below will most likely only work once we get the alarm off of the car right? It's a 2007 Pontiac G6 sedan

Probably not that simple. A starter wire was cut when the aftermarket alarm was installed. The car will never start until that wire is restored to original position.

Then we need to work on the details of the aftermarket system

Start looking for wiring, brains, or modules that were added on under the steering column or drivers kick panel

Model numbers, FCC IDs, brand names or logos, check the glove box for an owners guide

Check under the hood for a remote start warning sticker, that could point to a brand

Then we can work on getting a remote for your unit, pairing it, and getting it started again

Does the alarm have an L.E.D. somewhere on the dash that flashes when the alarm is on? If so what color is the L.E.D.? If it is blue you probably have a Directed Electronics (DEI) alarm, either a Viper, Python or maybe Auto-Mate or Your Valet brand. All of those are DEI alarms. If it is a DEI product, look down under the dash, probably on the driver's side somewhere you may have a black plastic push button switch. That is the valet/override switch. If the switch is there, turn the ignition key to the "Run" position for a few seconds and then turn it back to "Off". Within 10 seconds of turning the key off, press and release the Valet button one time. The alarm will then be bypassed and your L.E.D. will be on solid. This is also known as "Valet Mode". In valet mode the alarm will not arm or disarm, but the panic feature, keyless entry and trunk release (if installed) will still work from the remote. In valet mode the starter kill is also bypassed so you should be able to program the new ignition key if necessary.

Starter kill on a 2007 G6 is done at the PCM. The starter wire is either yellow or purple with a white stripe. If you want to remove the starter kill the starter wire may be cut and spliced at the PCM. You may find just a regular Bosch 30 amp relay in a socket near the PCM wire harness. The socket will have a green wire and a black wire on it, both about 12 gauge. Follow those two wires to where they are connected to the starter wire. You can cut the green and black wires and splice the starter wire back together to completely and permanently bypass the starter kill. Or it may just be two wires connected at the PCM starter wire. Either way you can splice the starter wire back together to bypass the starter kill and start the car normally.

Here is a link to the alarm wiring in your car.
