apparently my edit failed.

at least for the application I listed api gl-4 75w90 gear oil is somewhat similar except perhaps thicker.

I asked Red Line if they made an equivalent a couple of months ago. Their response was "at this point we donít offer a cross for the SG1 differential gear oil." Not that this helps you, but, it leads me to believe there is something unique about the oil.

Per Mazda:
Mazda Long Life Hypoid Gear Oil SG1 for the differential..

Mazda Original Long life Gear Oil IS for the manual transmission with this footnote "can use API Service GL-4 75W-90"

but there is No Footnote for the Differential..

I'd like to know specs too. In 2016, Mazda changed the recommendation for the transfer case and rear differential on the CX-5 from an 80w90 GL-5 to Mazda Long Life Hypoid Gear Oil SG1. Was there a technical reasoning or is this a way to increase dealership visits?

Some of the aftermarket Miata suppliers list Redline for the NA,NB,NC,ND differential, So??????? My ND was low from the factory, I drained & filled w/ Mobil 1 75W90 GL5. I don't track or autocross, so I feel this is more than adequate.

You should trust them on the 80W90, but it has to be a GL5, not GL4 .

A mineral 80W90 typically has a KV40 of 145 - 160 cSt;whilst
a synthetic 75W90 typically has a KV40 of 95 - 105 cSt; and
a 75W typically has a KV40 of 35 - 45 cSt .
Now the factory SG1 has KV40 of what value ? IDK. I would speculate it to be around 100 - 120 for fuel economy with modern hardware manufacturing technology .
You can use 75W, but your higher ambient temperature may promote whining noise (as a very very mild form of wear and tear) and made worse with relative hard driving .

I personally prefer a monograde SAE 90 GL5, which your dealer did not recommend .
